If you are experiencing headaches when you wake up in the morning, or have pain with your chewing muscles, it could be that you are grinding your teeth at night while you are sleeping. Unfortunately it is not something that we can easily control. This parafunction can make your teeth shorter as you grind away the layers and when that happens, exposure of the nerve is possible. This results in sensitivity and pain and you may need a root canal to stop it from hurting. Grinding or clenching can also put more stress on your jaws and give you problems with the jaw joint itself.
When appropriate, we can easily make a nightguard to help your muscles relax and prevent overuse of your teeth and jaw joint. Prevention is always cheaper than cure.
