Preventative

Check ups and cleans are more than just check ups and cleans at Starr Dental Group. Our dentist will do a thorough check of your teeth, gums, soft tissues, jaw joint and bite each time.

Regular examinations are needed to identify problems early. Sometimes things that aren’t problems now, can turn into big avoidable issues later on that require long messy treatment. We will always look out for these potential time bombs and advise on when it is appropriate to intercept.

Our dentist will not only inform you of any teeth-related areas of concern, but also take x-rays and intraoral photos to show you the specific problem and help you decide on treatment options. We take a conservative approach to dentistry and utilise methods to avoid extensive treatments unless it is absolutely necessary.

Did you know that orthodontic issues can sometimes be picked up early and when children receive early intervention, it is possible to minimise the length of time in fixed braces? Be sure that when your child has regular check ups at Starr Dental Group, we are not only checking your teeth for holes but we are also regularly looking for bite issues that can be changed with natural growth and development. By helping nature doing the work, we are minimizing the need for long drawn-out treatment later on.

When we do a scale and clean, we remove the tartar build up on your teeth and can assess the health of your gums. Early diagnosis of gum disease means that we can treat it before it turns into bone loss and bone loss turns to tooth loss. Sometimes gum issues can also cause bad breath. If you have any concerns with bad breath or halitosis, it is imperative that you get regular scales and cleans to address these issues.

Other than the more obvious dental issues, sometimes the lining of our cheeks, palate and floor of mouth can develop abnormalities which can lead to oral cancer. We screen all surfaces of the mouth and tongue at each and every check up appointment to make sure that there are no abnormalities present.

Jaw joints are also an important, sometimes neglected part of dentistry. Often people have a click or sore muscles that they’ve just gotten used to and never really had it investigated. There are options available, but only if you’re made aware of them.
